Creator Sessions: Anissa Zabala MUA

Creator Sessions: Anissa Zabala MUA

Before we jump into the session, here is a bit about Anissa. She is an international makeup artist from Québec, Canada. Her background in arts and design has been a great asset and helped her immensely in developing her brand and aesthetic. We love her work and it's awesome to see her doing a stellar job in her industry!

What are some products you would recommend to another MUA?

I really enjoy any products that make the skin look dewy. Some of my favorites include Smashbox Primer oil, Pinch of color Highlighting Stick, Kevyn Aucoin Eye Gloss and Becca Cosmetics Liquid Highlighters.

What is the most memorable job you've done?

Going to Miami to shoot a spring outerwear campaign. One of the first times traveling for work.

Do you enjoy doing more out of the box work on models or do you have a specific style you stick to?

I used to stick to a specific style on models but recently I’m trying to push myself and always create more out of the box concepts. I always like my models to look beautiful and elegant, so I guess it’s sort of my underlining style.

What are some things you wish models knew when it comes to shoot day?

Never do a face mask the day before, hydrating is key and take care of your skin and lips, it’s your prized possession.

Are you always updating your make-up kit, trying a new product?

Always. When I started out I use to work in retail which makes your kit very sales driven and also a bit bias. When you start to pay for what you put in your kit, you start exploring more, trying out different brands and I feel shop way more before buying! You also stick to what works.

If you could plan and execute your own shoot anywhere in the world, who would be your go-to model and where would you go?

I would probably go to Greece, it’s a dream destination of mine. As for the model, obviously a celebrity would be amazing, but I think I would probably choose once the concept is determined. 😂 I feel each face is perfect for a specific kind of shoot.

What is your biggest pet peeve when you are doing your job?

A model that tells me what to do or asks me for contour à la Kim Kardashian. As much as they can be sweet, generally looks are determined beforehand by the team or the client and I am not there to accommodate their “going-out” looks or get them to Instagram ready! 😅

We hope you enjoyed this Creators session! Feel free to jump on some other ones here!
