5 DIY Beauty Treatments to Try This Summer

Our hearts and souls might love the sunshine but that doesn’t mean our skin does. It’s no secret that endless hours in the sun can be detrimental to our skin but with the right beauty regime, we can dive right into life with a wrinkle-free glow.

Beauty products can be expensive and let's be honest, with all the chemicals used by a variety of companies! If you practice a DIY beauty regime you will not only save money, but you will also save your body from harmful toxins.

1. Coconut Oil Scrub

You probably are already a big fan of coconut oil because of how soft it makes your skin and hair feel. However, we challenge you to up your coconut oil game to include a delicious scrub that your skin and your senses simply won’t be able to get enough of.

Try this lavender coconut oil sugar scrub for a great quick fix exfoliation.

Ingredients:

- 1 cup of coconut oil

- 2 cups of raw sugar

- 20 drops of lavender oil

Directions:

  • If the coconut oil is not already melted, heat the oil in the microwave for 40 seconds or until melted.
  • Put the melted coconut oil into a mixing bowl and slowly mix in the sugar.
  • Add 20 drops of lavender oil.
  • Transfer to an airtight container and voila!

Tip: Experiment with different essential oils to find your favorite scent.

2. Honey Wash

Did you know that honey has natural antibacterial priorities? That’s right, honey is natures way of helping us combat unwanted zits!

Try this homemade face wash to start experiencing all the benefits honey has to offer.

Ingredients:

- Half a cup of raw, organic honey.

- Half a cup of coconut milk.

- 2 tablespoons of liquid Castile soap

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and then pour into an empty honey bottle. To use massage a small amount into your face and neck (make sure to avoid your eyes!)

Tip: Twice a week mix some of your coconut oil scrub into your regime for silky smooth skin.

3. Aloe a bit of Moisturizer

When it comes to a natural moisturizer there is nothing a bit of organic cold pressed Aloe Vera gel can’t do. Not only will nature’s greatest beauty product hydrate your skin, it will also help sooth sunburn and acne.

If you don’t live near an Aloe Vera plant then you will need to purchase this moisture magic. However, it’s super affordable and can be ordered straight from amazon.

Tip: Look for organic Aloe Vera gel so that your skin doesn’t absorb any nasty toxins.

4. Almond Eyes

Did you know that the skin around your eyes is the most delicate part of your face because it contains no oil glands? No wonder our eyes can show the first signs of ageing. If you spend your life at the beach and in the sun then not only can you protect your eyes with a great pair of Sunglasses you can also create your own homemade eye mask to combat any unwanted dryness.

Try this nourishing avocado and almond oil mask to kick those crows feet to the curb.

Ingredients

- A teaspoon of avocado

- 5 drops of almond oil

Directions:

Mash together until the mixture is smooth, apply gently around the eye area, and leave for 5 minutes and rinse.

Tip: Apply this mixture every night before bed so that you wake up looking as fresh as the ocean.

5. It’s in the Hands

Along with the skin around our eyes, the hands can also show the first signs of ageing. Too often we neglect our hands but it’s actually really easy to keep them hydrated and soft.

Whenever you are at the beach use the sand as a natural exfoliator to scrub away dead skin cells on the front and back of your hands, and then head home and make this hand lotion for ultimate nourishment.

Ingredients

- 2 teaspoons of beeswax

- 2 teaspoons of cocoa butter

- 2 teaspoons of shea butter

- 1 teaspoon of almond oil

- 15 drops of essential oil 

Directions:

Mix together the beeswax, cocoa butter and shea butter then melt in the microwave for at least 1 minute stirring every 30 seconds. Add in your favorite essential oils – we love vanilla! Then, place mixture in the fridge to cool.

Tip: Leave the lotion on your hands overnight, cover your hands with gloves and wake up in the morning with fabulously soft hands!
